I'm Matthijs, a tech lead who's passionate about building a more sustainable future, one line of code – and maybe one slightly overwatered plant – at a time

I've always been drawn to the power of creation, whether it's crafting software solutions, prototyping new ideas, or coaxing life from a handful of seeds. My journey with code began early, and I remember the thrill of writing community modifications for a videogame. It was like having a superpower, the ability to build something from nothing.

Beyond the digital world, my heart has always been captivated by the natural world. Growing up close to the ocean, my dad would take my brother and I exploring in the forests that bordered the dunes. We’d go on scavenger hunts and other adventures, discovering hidden paths and the incredible biodiversity of those coastal ecosystems. It was there, among the leaves and soil, that I first understood the balance and interconnectedness of systems – lessons I carry into my work today.

That early spark of creativity and a desire to build something led me to explore rapid prototyping and innovative technologies. I recently managed an ML/AI project where we turned unstructured data from emails into concrete requests for quotations and calculated the probability of a sale. We were able to successfully prototype this solution in a short amount of time and continually improve it based on the experiences of the people working with it. It was an incredible experience that showed me how quickly you can turn an idea into a functioning product, especially with the right approach and a dose of curiosity.

Today, I bring that same passion and hands-on approach to my role as CTO and lead-developer for CargoClub. I thrive in the space where technology meets sustainability, and I’m excited about empowering businesses that are making a positive impact on the world. Whether it's building scalable SaaS platforms, exploring Gen AI solutions, or just helping a team thrive, I’m committed to creating impactful results, one sustainable step at a time.

And yes, I might over-water my garden every now and then, but I'm learning, just like with every new challenge, to approach each project with care and attention to detail.
